 John
Stephens is
a sitar player who is committed to the tradition of North Indian
Classical music. Formerly a jazz guitar player, composer, and a
graduate of Berklee College of Music, his artistic direction transformed
when he began his training with Pandit Amar Nath Mishra during several
extended trips to Varanasi, India. Stephens currently resides in
Valencia, CA where he is earning his master’s degree in North
Indian music at the California Institute of the Arts while intensively
studying sitar, sarod, tabla and vocal music with Ustad Aashish
Khan and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri. In addition to his ongoing learning,
John is busy giving performances and teaching music at Cal Arts
and in the Los Angeles area.
